In search of Old Powers in Philadelphia

I'm a woman who likes her whiskey. There are few things more simple and beautiful than a whiskey neat. For years now my go to whiskey has been Powers Irish whiskey, that is until they changed the Gold label recipe into something that tastes nothing like the powers I knew and loved. I've since been making my way around the city searching for old powers. Looking up #OLDPOWERS on the twitter, searching bars for the trademark old Powers labels and questioning bartenders to see if they might just be hiding some somewhere that they'll let me buy a shot of.

It's getting harder and harder to find it.

I've been sliding into bars off of the beaten path where a  bartender will give me a sideways glance when I ask if they have 'old powers' and then I venture off into the story of how Powers decided to change the recipe into something that doesn't hold a candle to the taste of the old Powers.

I've managed to beg a few bar keeps to hide bottles for me behind their bars. However, I'm quickly running out of supply.

If you see old Powers, let us know! We're in search of Old Powers!

Perhaps you've seen the beautiful photo Serrano posted. Isn't it the most beautiful thing you've ever seen?

  1. Have you tried the black sheep? they are very cool about that suff and big whiskey fans. i used to go there to get my favorite Paddy whiskey which didn't import to America. The owner would bring back a couple bottles for the hand full of us who crave it. i don't know if they are squirrling away a few bottles of "old powers" but they seem like a bunch who might.

    1. I haven't tried there! I should though. Wow it's been ages since I went in there. Thanks for the suggestion!
