Attention Saison virgins!

I recently discussed my love for summer beers, and Saisons are no exception. Plus, they are making a huge comeback.

Saison is one of the most unique styles of beer you can find. It's light-bodied, highly carbonated, fruity and spicy. Some are even a little bit sour (my favorite!). It dances on the palate, but doesn't linger. Also, it's not like a lot of those wussy summer beers you're used to. Saisons often have ABV ranging anywhere from 5 to 8%. I love this beer for summer barbecues. With all the food you're eating, you won't have to worry about becoming This Drunk Bitch by 2pm, plus the crispness of the beer pairs great with all things grilled.

This week at Alla Spina, they are featuring an impressive list of Saisons for their 3rd annual "Saisonale". If you're already a fan like I am, you'll be excited to see some old favorites and maybe some new ones to try. If you're a Saison virgin, this is pretty much the best opportunity for you to dive in head first. Here is a list of what you can try between now and April 20th:
  • Allagash Saison
  • Sixpoint Seison
  • Brewfist/Freigeist Galaxy
  • Bruery Saison de Lente
  • Sixpoint Seison
  • Stillwater Cellar Door
  • Yards Saison
  • Flying Fish Farmhouse
  • Evil Twin Table Beer
  • Baladin Wayan
  • Ommegang Glimmerglass
  • Brooklyn Sorachi
  • Lost Abbey Carnevale
  • Victory Swing Session
  • Saison Dupont
If you're new to Saisons, I would recommend starting with Saison Dupont or Yards Saison. They are the most straightforward, and a great starting point for all the others. Try them all and be the hero at the next barbecue you attend.

Oh, and one more thing. This weekend I had a chance to sample Space Monkey from Fegley's Brewworks. They are a located in Allentown, PA, and they are doing some impressive stuff. Not only is their beer delicious, but check out this sweet label.

While I tried just about all of their brews, the Space Monkey was my favorite. It's a raspberry Saison, so it's fruity, slightly sour and very crisp. What I liked the most about it was the fact that it had plenty of raspberry flavor, but it wasn't sweet. If you see any of their beers while you're out and about, definitely check them out!

Stay drunk, bitches!
