The NE Philly Beer Festival recap/ I love Naked Brewing Company

For the 4th year in a row, the NE Philly Beer Festival failed to disappoint. Tons of vendors, breweries and live music and one (very) Drunk Bitch. Even though it was rainy at times, there was a big ass tent overhead to keep us all nice and dry.

The strangest beer of the day was definitely the Twisted Pretzel Wheat beer from Shock Top. Apparently, Shock Top is sampling new special edition beers at festivals all across the country, so it's no surprise that Philadelphia got a pretzel brew. Honestly though, I really liked this. It had lots of real pretzel dough flavor, with a great balance of sweet and salty that made it very drinkable and not at all gimmicky. I could definitely see myself grabbing a 6 pack of this if I see it in the stores.

My favorite brewery of the day was Naked Brewing Company, and they were apparently everyone else's favorite too, as their Freckles Angry Brown Ale was voted "Beer of the Year" by event goers. While I thought that beer was delicious, it was the Le Petomane that kept me coming back to their table. As you know, I've previously written about my love for Saisons, and this was a really special one. The brewers themselves describe it as "A traditional farmhouse style saison, this beer sports fruity esters, along with notes of coriander and black pepper. Not to mention the name of a badass turn-of-the-century French flatulist." I loved this beer so much that I came back for a refill several times. The very friendly brewers also informed me that they make a SOUR version of this lovely Saison, which I will be venturing out to try very soon at their brewery in Southampton, PA.

They also brought a few bottles of their Pomegranate Wheat Beer, which they were kind enough to let me sample as well. As you can see, I was very happy with it. It was tart and slightly sweet, and reminded me of macerated strawberries with Balsamic vinegar sprinkled on top- one of my favorite summer time snacks! This is a beer I will definitely be on the lookout for throughout the spring and summer months.

All in all, despite the weather, it was a fantastic day. We got to hang out with a lot of great brewers, drink fantastic beers and mingle with the beer aficionados of the Greater Philadelphia area.

Stay drunk, bitches!
